BILT HARD Log Splitter 6.5 Ton, Wood Splitter Electric Powered 15Amp, with Hydraulic Ram, Electric Firewood Splitting Machine, Horizontal
Real-world experiences with the electric log splitter reveal a mix of satisfaction and practical insights. Users appreciate its compact size and eco-friendly design, noting that it handles most personal wood splitting needs efficiently. However, the low ground level and two-handed operation are recurring points of adjustment for many. Despite minor packaging damages and assembly challenges reported by some, the overall consensus leans towards utility and value, especially for those who plan frequent splitting sessions or live in limited spaces.
The machine boasts a 15Amp motor providing 6.5-Ton force, capable of handling logs up to 9.8" in diameter. Its horizontal design and transport wheels enhance maneuverability, while the two-hand controls add a layer of safety. Users have reported varying lifespans depending on usage, with some achieving dozens of uses in a season, others getting significantly less. The swift cycle time and ease of resetting make it practical for continuous use, though operating handiness and log positioning require attention. Certain users highlight the need for slight adjustments and caution against using wet logs.

The dock (2nd problem) and then somehow get this thing up 42 stairs to where it was going to live (3rd problem). So I decided to forgo the warrantee and open it up. Somewhat. I removed the hydraulic motor (after draining the 3.5 l of oil) removed the control box and took out the switch. I then added a 5ft. section of flexible electrical conduit with wires in it that matched to gauge of the existing wires. I now had made the button remote and can be pressed from 5 ft. away. For the hydraulic level, I put a 3 ft. ridgid plastic conduit pipe over it. I then, with the aid of the mechanical diagram (very well displayed), I started removing bits and pieces untill the main ram unit was weighing approximately 60 lbs. or so. That I could handle! This last weekend I took all of it to my cabin,re-assembled it and added the oil. I test ran it a couple of times then retightened all the bolts and rechecked the oil level. Time for main test. This unit operated flawlessly and I felt extremely safe. This is a sweet splitter! Couykld not be more happy with the purchase. Worth every dollar! Some of my neighbours were very impressed with the actionbs of it especially when splitting large heavely knotted logs. Worked flawlessly. I am not advising that people do this to their units as this could be very risky. I have a background in medium mechanics and hydraulics.
Got this one for the sturdy build and price. Works very well for splitting quite large pieces. I use firewood in my wood stove for most of my heating needs. I buy slab wood from a local sawmill and some of the pieces are really big to handle and/or fit into the woodstove. I needed a log splitter to help me with these pieces. I am 80 years old and not as strong as I used to be. I have been using this splitter now for three months and it works perfectly. It was easy to set up and operate. I can use it indoors at my woodshed during winter without fumes from the large gas-powered splitter that I need for the really huge and knotty logs so I have a steady source of kindling and easy-to-burn smaller pieces. I can very highly recommend it to anyone with similar needs.
I’m going to review this purchase in several parts. I received the item on august 6th. I bought the model with the stand, which requires some assembly. the instructions for assembly are well written and easy to understand. The assembly steps were also well illustrated. 5 out of 5 for this. As they suggest, it is a two-person job. the electronics for the splitter are in a metal box on the left side of the splitter. That includes the on/off switch, and the circuit breaker reset button. The power switch was loose and pushed inside the box when you pressed on it. I took the cover off the box to try to fix this.It turns out there was a crack on the cover for the box. The plastic ring that is supposed to hold the on/off switch in place was also cracked. I glued it back together and waited a day for it to dry. The power switch did not protrude from the electronics box far enough to fasten the repaired plastic ring that holds it in place. I was able to adjust this by moving a plastic piece inside the box that controls how much of the switch protrudes from the box and then attaching the glued-together ring. That did the trick, and I was able to use the splitter.1 out of 5 for the quality of the switch assembly and the workmanship. After using the splitter for the first time we found the weather-proof cover for the circuit breaker reset switch on the ground. I took the cover off the electronics box again and repaired it likewise I repaired the power switch. Also 1 out of 5. I contacted the company for replacement parts, but they were out of stock for six weeks. The replacement parts ultimately arrived on October 9, 2024. Again, 1 out of 5 for the delay. Once the repair to the power switch was done, I was finally able to split wood. I was very pleased with how well the splitter works. It was strong enough to split almost every piece of wood I placed on it. it allows you to split wood up to 22 inches, but I was splitting 12-inch pieces. There is a bolt you can tighten to keep the splitter from retracting the whole 22 inches after it splits a log. I set it for 14 inches. Regrettably, it would not stay tight after four or five logs, and I had to wait for the slide to retract the whole 22 inches before I could start another log. The company said they would send me an M8 bolt to use, but it did not arrive with the other parts. 4 out of 5 for operation of the splitter. It would have been 5 out of 5 without this problem. To split a log, you must hold down the power switch with one hand and a lever with the other hand. This forces you to stand at the head of the splitter to use it. This keeps you safe from logs flying off to the sides of the splitter. (This can happen with any splitter.) It’s a good safety feature. apart from all the initial assembly problems I am very please with this splitter.
this is great. We harvest our own wood and supplement it with locally purchased wood for our wood stove that heats our home in a Canadian winter. It has the power to do the job and kindling shortages will never be a problem again. The bonus is we can downsize logs more and make kindling in the warmth of the indoors because it is electric and small. I have no regrets.
